Start to Finish: How the Boeing 787 is Made

The Boeing 787 first flew in 2009 and introduced a new generation of efficient and high-performance aircraft. It has also introduced a spreadsheet system for Boeing, as well as for importers in several countries on two US production lines. Although the aircraft has had its problems, both in design and construction, it remains a popular and successful development. But … what does it take to create a 787 Dreamliner?

About 50% of the material used is carbon fiber made from plastic and other composites, as well as only 20% from aluminum. 15% is titanium, which is also metal but has been shown to be low-alloyed. Overall, this gives the 787 a 20% weight reduction compared to building construction (according to Boeing)
